[1st ed] Dispatches

$250.00

First edition, first printing of what was deemed in the New York Times Book Review “the best book to have been written about the Vietnam War,” and what John Le Carre considered simply “the best book I have ever read on men and war in our time.” A semi-fictional memoir by journalist Michael Herr based on his experiences and reporting as a Vietnam War correspondent for Esquire Magazine from 1967-1969. Published by Alfred A. Knopf in 1977. An iconic example of 1960’s era New Journalism, and influential on subsequent war reporting. Herr would go on to write the narration for the movie Apocalypse Now and would collaborate on the screenplay for Full Metal Jacket. 8vo, hardcover with dust jacket, 260 pages. Minor soiling to bottoms edges of boards. Light chipping to dj, with damp staining along spine, not affecting cloth.
