[1ST ED] Modern Furniture: Its Design and Construction

$250.00

First edition of sculptor, craftsman, author and designer Mario Dal Fabbro’s curated survey of modernist furniture design, published by Reinhold in 1949. Per Morris Ketchum in the Introduction, “Dal Fabbro gives us, in drawings and photos, a unique bird’s eye view of current design trends in furniture and equipment. His book should prove a useful tool to every professional concerned with today’s architecture. As well, he has taken care of the needs of the amateur craftsman with ‘exploded’ drawings that act as a guide to those interested in furniture building as a hobby.” Along with his own designs, Dal Fabbro features a well-edited selection by contemporary designers including Florence Knoll, Abel Sorensen, Eugenio Gentile, Marcel Breuer, Charles and Ray Eames, Pietro Crespi, Andre Dupres, Gabrielle Mucchi, James Leonard, Ilmari Tapiovaara, Vittoriano Vigano, Eero Saarinen, Jens Risom, Charlotte Perriand, Hans Bellman, Cesare Lacca, Bruno Mathsson, Franco Albini, George Nelson, Walter Gropius, Richard Stein, Carlo Pagani, Lio Carminati, and Charles Niedringhaus. 4to, 158 pages plus a 16 page appendix, hardcover with pictorial dust jacket. A valuable reference guide for early postwar design. Slight lean to spine. Light bumping and fraying to extremities. Bumping and chipping to moderately rubbed dj, with light foxing to verso and rear cover, and some open tears, especially at spine ends and corners. Content clean and bright.
