First edition, first printing (with ‘FS’ symbol on copyright page) of G.M. Gilbert’s account of interviews he conducted during the Nuremberg Trials. Published in 1947 by Farrar, Straus and Company. Initially sent as a translator, Gilbert served as a prison psychiatrist in Nuremberg, with unfettered access to Goering, von Ribbentrop, Keitel, Frank, Pohl, Ohlendorf, Hoss, Kaltenbrunner, Streicher, and others. Per the cover of the dust jacket, “This sensational report now published for the first time, is a startling revelation of the innermost thoughts of the Nazi defendants at the Nuremberg Trials.” Gilbert is portrayed by Colin Hanks in the recently released movie adaptation. 8vo, hardcover with pictorial dust jacket, 471 pages. Front hinge partially split, rear hinge weakened; binding reasonably sound otherwise. Some bumping and fraying to edges; closed tear to spine head. Some creasing and rubbing to dj, with a number of open tears to edges, especially at spine head. Limited damp staining to bottom corner of rear cover. A number of tape repairs to dj, only one visible at the top edge of rear cover.
