[1st ed] Rama: Poeme Dramatique en Trois Actes (Inscribed by author; illustrated by Alphonse Mucha)
First edition of this three-act dramatic poem by French poet, novelist, journalist, and editor Paul Vérola (1853-1934). Decorated with five full-page color lithographs by Alphonse Mucha in his quintessential Art Nouveau idiom. Published in Paris in 1898 by Bibliothèque Artistique et Littéraire and printed by Chamerot et Renouard. 4to (8.75” x 11.25”), printed wrappers, 122 pages. Number 232 of 400 copies, one of 385 on velin. Warmly inscribed on the half-title page by Verola to Edmond Lepelletier (1846-1913), a French journalist, politician, popular novelist, and lifelong friend of Paul Verlaine. Spine partially or fully split into roughly three segments. Light rubbing and bumping to extremities. Contents pristine. Tissue guards all present. Overall, an exceptional copy of this scarce work with an interesting association inscription to boot.
