Artists for Victory: An Exhibition of Contemporary American Art/A Picture Book of the Prize Winners
Catalog accompanying a 1942 exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, showcasing the 41 purchase-prize winning selections from about 1,500 contemporary artworks exhibited, themselves selected from ten times as many entries. Artists for Victory (1942-1946) was a NYC-based non-profit that organized American artists in support of the war effort. The Jury of Award was comprised of staff members of various museums, among them Alfred H. Barr, Jr from MoMA, Juliana R. Force from the Whitney, and A. Hyatt Mayor from the MET. The award winning artists featured in the catalog include Jose De Creft, Chaim Gross, Gladys Edgerly Bates, Alexander Sander, Herbert Ferber, Carl Walters, Grace H.
