Catalog--Al's Grand Hotel (7175 Sunset Boulevard Hollywood, California May 7-June 12, 1971)
First edition of this now-canonical self-published artist’s book. 8vo (6” x 9”), stapled printed wrappers, 12 unnumbered pages. Illustrated throughout with black-and-white photographs documenting the six-room artist-operated hotel created by Allen Ruppersberg in Hollywood during the spring of 1971. The catalog records the furnishings, installations, and environments comprising one of the landmark projects of early West Coast Conceptual Art. Mild toning and a small bump to the lower right corner; otherwise a notably fresh, crisp example of this fragile and deliberately ephemeral document. Scarce, especially thus. Protected in a mylar wrapper.
