Thoughtfully conceived exhibition catalog whose materials echo Frank O. Gehry’s inventive approach to furniture and architecture. Plain brown stiff wrappers, lettered in orange, open to photographic enlargements of corrugated cardboard. Laid in is the original die-cut cardboard silhouette of the Wiggle Side Chair—a small, tactile expression of the sculptural possibilities Gehry found in an ordinary packing material. Approximately 8.5 x 11.25 inches; 66 pages, with black-and-white illustrations throughout. Edited by Alexander von Vegesack, with essays by Evi Ahrendt, Milena Lamarová, and Rostislav Švácha. English and Czech text. Published in 1996 for the Vitra Design Museum’s touring exhibition, including its presentation at Gallery Mánes in Prague, the catalog brings together Gehry’s cardboard furniture, bentwood seating, and architectural work. A remarkably fresh, near-mint copy, retaining the intact chair insert.
