Fulvio Testa: Metropolis (Inscribed)
Early catalog devoted to Testa's Metropolis series, in which the Verona-born artist—trained in architecture before establishing his career as a painter and illustrator—reduces architectural space to an austere vocabulary of walls, openings, intersecting planes, and saturated color. Published in Verona in October, 1983 by Studio Toni De Rossi. 8vo (6” x 8.25”), pictorial wrappers, illustrated with color reproductions. Text in Italian. With introductory remarks by Giorgio Cortenova and Italo Mussa. Inscribed by Fulvio Testa on the front free endpaper, signed and dated “N.Y.C. 26/11/83, scarcely a month after publication.
An appealing association with Testa's transatlantic career: published in his native Verona and presented by the artist in his adopted city of New York almost immediately after printing. Metropolis is notably elusive in the market; signed copies are particularly uncommon. Front hinge weakened. Light bend to textblock and rear wrapper. Light bumping and rubbing to dust jacket.
