Gute Mobel
Catalog accompanying an exhibition of Swiss “Good Design” held at Zurich’s Kunstgewerbemuseum from November 11, 1961-January 7, 1962. The Gute Model exhibition showcased 25 furniture entries in categories such as desks, tables, chairs, cabinets, beds, and shelving, selected from a competition among furniture designs organized by the Association of Swiss Master Carpenters and Furniture Manufacturers. Featured designers included Peter Naf, Anton Bee, Alfred Senn, Klaus Jorgen Roricht, Max Gomringer, Hans Eichenberger, Willy Kempter, Benedikt Rohner, Verena Huber, Roland Schmutz, Ubald Klug, Helen Baumann, Walter Luscher, Hans Blattler, and Klaus Huggler. Each entry features a multiple page spread with photos, schematics, and curatorial information including designer, maker, and materials. 8vo (8.6” x 7.8”), printed wrappers, 60 pages, b/w photos and illustrations throughout. Text in German, with an introduction by Swiss architect, designer, educator—and the museum’s director—Alfred Altherr, and a short essay by noted Swiss furniture designer Willy Guhl. With graphic design by Rudolf Bircher, best known for his 1958 SwissAir logo. A handsome example of Zurich region Swiss graphic design and a valuable resource for identifying and documenting this moment in Swiss furniture design history, with many lesser-known designs and designers represented. Hinges slightly weakened. Light rubbing and chipping to extremities.
