Artists 77: Exhibition and Sale
Catalogue for Artists 77, the fifth biennial international exhibition and sale organized as a benefit for International Play Group and the Creche, held May 11–27, 1977 at the Union Carbide Building, 270 Park Avenue, New York. 8vo (5.5” x 8.5”), blue textured wrappers with blind-embossed artists 77 device; 66 numbered pages plus approximately 22 additional pages, illustrated in black and white. A substantial catalogue documenting an ambitious international survey, with illustrated entries, biographies and exhibition histories for participating artists. The handsome production, with its restrained blue wrappers and blind-embossed typography, gives the catalogue considerably more presence than the usual benefit-exhibition publication. An interesting document of the international circulation of contemporary art in 1970s New York and of the period's corporate-space exhibition culture. Light creasing to bottom corner of front wrapper. Otherwise near fine. Scarce.
