I Libri nella Casa (Massimo Vignelli's Personal Copy)
First edition of Quaderni di Domus No. 1, published in Milan in 1945 by Editoriale Domus. Written by Vito Latis. 8vo (7.5 × 9.25 inches), original wrappers with pictorial dust jacket, 77. pages, extensively illustrated in black-and-white.
An important early publication in the history of Italian modernist design, examining the integration of books and libraries into the domestic interior. Through photographs of contemporary interiors, shelving systems, and experimental furniture, Latis explores the relationship between architecture, storage, and the organization of modern living space. The volume documents the work of leading modernist architects and designers, including Franco Albini, Gio Ponti, Le Corbusier, Walter Gropius, and Frederick Kiesler. The inaugural volume of the influential Quaderni di Domus series, under the editorial direction of Lina Bo and Carlo Pagani.
An exceptional association copy from the working library of Massimo and Lella Vignelli, bearing Massimo Vignelli's ownership signature in blue ink, dated 1947, on the half-title. Born in 1931, Vignelli was approximately sixteen years old when he acquired the book, placing it among the formative years of his engagement with modern architecture and design. The association is particularly resonant: an early study of the relationship between books, furniture, and architectural space, owned by a young designer whose subsequent career would be defined by a rigorous understanding of visual order, proportion, and the integration of design disciplines.
Spine split; binding loosened. Some bumping and chipping to extremities. Bumping and chipping to dj. Spine mostly missing; front flap partially split.
