La Maquinahamlet (First Spanish Edition)

First Spanish edition—and the first text by Heiner Müller published in Spain, issued in conjunction with the first Spanish production of his work. 12mo (4.75 × 6.5 inches), printed wrappers, 19 pages. Published in Madrid in 1986 by Cuadernos de Cantina 3. Translated by Antonio Fernández Lera, Max Egolf, and Sefa Bernet.

A notably scarce and bibliographically significant Spanish appearance of Müller’s Die Hamletmaschine (1977), one of the defining works of postwar experimental theater. The rear wrapper explicitly identifies this as the first publication and performance of a Müller text in Spain. The translation was produced in connection with the January 1986 Madrid staging by Espacio Cero, directed by translators Max Egolf and Sefa Bernet; it was subsequently reprinted in Primer Acto in 1987. Spain’s Centro de Documentación de las Artes Escénicas y de la Música has described this original 19-page Cuadernos de Cantiga edition as today “a collector’s piece.”
