La Traviata. Season of Nineteen Fifty-Four--Nineteen Fifty-Five (Signed)

$275.00

Metropolitan Opera program for a 1954 performance of La Traviata. 8vo (6.5 × 9 inches), printed wrappers, illustrated. Signed prominently on the front wrapper by Licia Albanese and Ettore Bastianini, who appeared in this performance as Violetta and Giorgio Germont, respectively. Giacinto Prandelli sang Alfredo; Alberto Erede conducted.

The specific house program for the November 24 performance, with the complete Traviata program and cast occupying the central section, followed by listings for forthcoming Met performances November 25–December 2. The sequence corresponds to the Metropolitan Opera's archival performance chronology. A particularly appealing full-page contemporary advertisement for London Records featuring a large photographic portrait of Bastianini appears opposite the forthcoming-performance schedule. Bastianini had made his Met debut as Germont only the previous season, in December 1953, also opposite Albanese.

A strong performance association copy: not simply a season program bearing two operatic autographs, but the contemporary program for a performance in which both signers appeared together in leading roles. Bastianini, who died in 1967 at age 44, is the significantly scarcer of the two signatures. Light bumping and rubbing to extremities, with some creasing to front wrapper. Limited closed tear to spine tail; small open tear to top corner of rear wrapper. A well-used contemporary program with both signatures large, clear, and prominently placed.
