Libro Illeggibile NY 1
Special edition in Bruno Munari’s “unreadable book” series designed for the Museum of Modern Art, and published by MoMA in 1967 in an edition of 2000, of which this example is hand-numbered 751. MoMA had previously exhibited examples of Munari’s Libro Illeggibile in a 1955 exhibition titled Two Graphic Designers: Bruno Munari and Alvin Lustig. Per the back inside cover, “it is one of a group of books in which a visual discourse, rather than a text composed of words, carries the thread of the story.” Square 4to (8.75” x 8.75”), printed French-folded stiff wrappers, multiple die-cut paper stocks interwoven with (of course) a piece of red thread. 40 unnumbered pages. Mild de-lamination to either sides of spine of wrapper, common to this title and perhaps a production flaw. Overall, an exceptional copy of this celebrated artist’s book.
