Photographs From the Collection of the Israel Museum Jerusalem (Poster with multiple signatures)

$750.00

Poster for an exhibition titled “Photographs from the Collection of the Israel Museum Jerusalem” held at the Witkin Gallery in New York City from November 28-December 8,1979. Main image is a 1926 Andre Kertesz photo of Chez Mondrian. The poster was signed [likely] at a benefit soiree at the apartment of Arnold and Augusta Newman (“Chez Newman”) by the following: photographer Arnold Newman and his wife Augusta; the journalist and historian J. Robert Moskin; writer and curator Martin Weyl; Will Sandberg, Dutch surrealist artist, typographer, graphic designer, curator, and director of the Stedjelijk Museum, Amsterdam; American artist George Segal and his wife Helen; Israeli sculptor Yehiel Shemi; and art dealer and philanthropist Elaine Weitzen and her husband Hyman. Most signers had a direct connection to the Israel Museum: Arnold Newman and J. Robert Moskin covered the opening of the Museum in 1965 for LOOK Magazine; Martin Weyl was a Museum curator from 1969-1981; Will Sandberg designed the Israel Museum logo and served as first chairman of the Executive Committee; George Segal and Yehiel Shemi had solo shows at the Museum; and Elaine Weitzen was a Museum patron. 20” x 26”. Light bumping and rubbing.
