Plecnik's Ljubljana: An Architectural Guide

$150.00

Guide to the buildings, architectural elements, interiors, and furnishings in Llubjana, Slovenia designed by Joze Plecnik (1872-1957), Slovenia’s greatest architect and pupil of Otto Wagner. Plecnik’s style, described as Vienna Secession by way of baroque, byzantine and 18th century Vienna, graced the cityscapes of Vienna, Budapest, and Prague, though nowhere more than his hometown of Ljubljana, where his impact has been likened to that of Gaudi on Barcelona. The present monograph, organized spatially, provided the most comprehensive assessment of Plecnik to date. Plecnik was one of the few modernist architects of note who did not reject historical forms, retaining elements of “eternal architecture.” While he influenced avant-garde Czech Cubism, he was generally under-appreciated through much of the mid century, with interest in his body of work revived via postmodernist criticism in the 1980’s. English revised edition, published in 1997 by Dessa with text by Andrej Hrausky, Janez Kozelj, Damjan Prelovske, and photographs by Damjan Gale. Oblong 8vo (11.5” x 4.75”), white wrappers with black and gray pictorial dust jacket, 279 pages replete with b/w images and renderings. Minor bumping to extremities. Light bumping and rubbing to dj.
