Reflections (Inscribed by Norman Foster)
First edition, special issue of this lavishly produced monograph devoted to the work of British architect and urbanist Sir Norman Foster. Published in London in 2005 by Foster and Partners. 9.75 × 12 inches, gray cloth, extensively illustrated with black-and-white photographs; index of projects at rear. Edited by David Jenkins; designed by Mark Vernon-Jones. Issued without dust jacket; lacking the publisher’s box.
Inscribed on the half-title: “For Aby / With best wishes / for 2005 / Norman,” almost certainly to the developer and collector Aby Rosen, Foster’s client for 610 Lexington Avenue, adjacent to the Seagram Building. The original hotel-and-condominium scheme evolved into the completed Foster-designed tower at 100 East 53rd Street. A persuasive architect–client association, although without direct provenance. A handsome photographic meditation on architecture, materials, light, and structure. Minor damp stain to rear board, not affecting interior. Otherwise pristine.
