Sculpture/Ceramic Exhibit (Presented by Bluffton College et al)

$225.00

Catalog accompanying an exhibition of modernist sculpture and ceramics held April 9-April 30, 1967 at the Allen County Museum in Lima, Ohio. Published in 1967 by Bluffton College, Northern Ohio University, and the Lima Art Association. Showcasing recent work by Harry Bertoia, Frank Gallo, David Hostetler, Brent Kington, and Paul Soldner. With a centerfold publicizing the Everson Museum’s 24th Ceramic National, traveling to the Norther Art Center in Ada, Ohio in 1968. In all likelihood, the noted ceramic artist Paul Soldner, a native of Bluffton and a graduate of Bluffton College, had a hand in organizing and curating the show. Headlining the show was the sculpture of artist and designer Harry Bertoia—a close-up of one of his Bush form sculptures is given a striking wraparound treatment on the covers. Small square 8vo (6” x 6”), pictorial wrappers, 11 unnumbered pages on card stock, glossy on recto, matte on verso. Black-and-white illustrations. Included is a folded invitation card, also with an image of a Bertoia Bush form sculpture and also on card stock. A scarce item (with the World Catalog listing only two institutional holdings) that documents the participation of smaller regional institutions and civic associations in the reception and promotion of American mid-century modernist art and design. Minor rubbing and bumping.
