Silt Pile No. 6: Paolo Soleri Studios at Cosanti Foundation--Original Architectural Workshop Poster and Prospectus, 1966

$1,350.00

Original large-format, multicolor screen printed architectural poster, broadside, and workshop prospectus, produced in 1966 by Paolo Soleri Studios at Cosanti Foundation. 35 × 17.5 inches. Architectural plans and drawings printed in black over richly layered, hand-screened fields of burgundy, violet, and blue, with extensive programmatic text in English, French, Italian, German, and Japanese.

A hstorically significant document of Paolo Soleri's formative architectural experiments at Cosanti, preceding by four years the establishment of Arcosanti in 1970. Issued for the sixth annual Silt Pile workshop, held in association with Arizona State University’s College of Architecture, the poster articulates Soleri's developing philosophy of architecture as human ecology, integrating environmental inquiry, experimental construction, and collective labor. The striking graphic composition incorporates architectural drawings of structures built at Cosanti between 1959 and 1965, including the Ceramic Studio, Exhibition Town Hall, Metal Studio, Workshop, and House, together with a densely lettered chronological panel documenting the complex's early development. The irregular, marbled color fields, characteristic of Soleri Studios' experimental screenprinting, complement the intricate architectural linework and bold modernist typography. Simultaneously an architectural survey, historical record, and educational prospectus, the poster documents the material and philosophical foundations of Soleri's subsequent arcological vision. An exceptional example of postwar experimental architectural graphics. Acquired at Cosanti during visits to Arizona in the 1960’s by the previous owner, a New York City architect. Light rubbing and bumping, otherwise a very well preserved example of a highly scarce and ephemeral item. Photographed in a mylar sleeve. Will ship in a cardboard tube.
