Teige (1900-1951) was a protean modernist figure, responsible for introducing avant-garde art and artists to Czech audiences. Though not an architect, Teige was a member of CIAM and a vocal proponent of minimumexistenz, a scientific approach to rational construction he gleaned from his friend Hannes Meyer, second director of the Bahaus. The communist-inflected “The Minimum Dwelling” was published in his native Czech in 1932.
