Double booklet with Victor Bockris’ s early and seminal interview with Patti Smith in one direction, and Carry-Out edited by Jeff Goldberg in the other direction. Xeroxed multiilith in stapled wrappers printed on 8.5” x 11” colored papers, verso only. Published at 3705 Powelton Ave., Philadelphia, in 1972. Of particular interest is the first appearance in print of Bockris’s interview with Smith, on the cusp of her move from Philadelphia to lower Manhattan, covering her take on the St. Mark’s Poetry Project and the New York School poets, along with her performative ambitions and her influences and avatars. Bockris would go on to become Smith’s biographer; their collaboration began here. An exceptionally scarce document, since reprinted, staking out Smith’s territory in the avant-garde cultural scene.
