The Wood Dome Planner
Guide to the planning and purchase of a geodesic dome house, published in 1974 by Dome East Corporation of Hicksville, Long Island (NY). Sort of a Whole Earth Catalog meets Levittown prospectus—a for-profit manual put out by a suburban commercial entity pitching an economical and sustainable housing alternative intended as much for suburban lots as rural wooded ones. Includes the essay “Wood Dome: a Machine for Living” by David Robinson, which discusses energy efficiencies, interior design modeling, budget, and shipping, with a bibliography, followed by numerous line drawings, plans, and photos of wooden geodesic dome structures. 4to, wrappers with plastic comb binder, 30 numbered double-sided xeroxed pages followed by 45 unnumbered ones printed only on recto, most with illustrations, including several pull-out plans and charts. The first page comprises a letter to the prospective client signed by Dome East president W.R. Wendel. Rubbing and some soiling to wrappers, minor bumping to extremities. A scarce piece of geodesic ephemera.
