Reuther 1960-1964 (Inscribed)
Exhibition catalogue documenting a fertile period in the work of German painter Wolf Reuther (1917-2004), whose increasingly abstracted figures, horses, musicians and sporting subjects combine angular construction with densely worked, saturated color. Published circa 1965 by the distinguished Galerie Durand-Ruel, where Reuther exhibited during the period. 8vo (6.4” x 8”), pictorial wrappers, approximately 37 pages. Text in French and English. A section of color plates is followed by a series of short texts/testimonials and a cv. Boldly inscribed and signed by Reuther across the entire front free endpaper, apparently dated 1971. With two contemporary color postcards laid in, both reproducing Reuther's 1969 sporting subjects: Basketball, from the collection of the French Secrétariat d'État aux Sports, and Boxkampf / Boxing / Le Ring. An engaging signed ensemble, substantially enhanced by Reuther's unusually large, exuberant inscription and the related contemporary ephemera. Rear hinge weakened. Light bumping and rubbing to extremities. Some bumping and chipping to lightly rubbed dust jacket.
