Ward Bennett (Phaidon Monograph)
Comprehensive and well-organized monograph on acclaimed American designer Ward Bennett (1917-2003), published in 2017 by Phaidon. Edited by Elizabeth Beer and Brian Janusiak, with a foreword by John Pawson, an introductory essay by Pilar Viladas, and a transcribed interview with Bennett. Traces Bennett’s 5-decade long career, showcasing his signature “rich minimalist” style that earned him a client list including David Rockefeller and Chase Manhattan Bank, Gianni and Marella Agnelli, Tiffany & Co, and Jann and Jane Wenner of Rolling Stone Magazine. With spreads on his architectural and interior design projects including his own house in the Springs and the Allen/Wenner house in the Hamptons followed by sections on his furniture designs for Lehigh, his furniture and textile designs for Brickel Associates (including here his iconic sled chairs and i-beam tables), his flatware and accessories for Tiffany and Sasaki, and his flatware for Supreme. 4to (8.5” x 11”), hardcover with printed acetate dust jacket, 273 pages lavishly illustrated in color and b/w. With a fold-out schematic of his chairs for Brickel tipped in. Minor rubbing and bumping to extremities, otherwise near fine. A must-have for anyone interested in this designer’s work, and now quite difficult to find.
