Catalog of an exhibition held at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Skopje, Yugoslavia 10 January-10 February 1978 showcasing work from the 1970’s by Greek Pop artist Yannis (Janis) Gaitis. Square 8vo, pictorial wrappers, 18 pages with 6 illustrations and 1 portrait, all in black and white. Published in 1978 by the Muzej na sovremanata umetnost Skopje, with an introduction by Sonja Abadjieva Dimitrova. Text in Serbo-Croat and French. Gaitis (1923-1984) was a Greek painter and sculptor best known for his paintings of repeating men identically dressed in plaid jackets, a symbolic figure of alienation and uniformity- that was repeated in greater than life-size sculptural compositions, environments, and happenings. His work has been shown internationally, at venues including the Tel Aviv Museum; Salon de Mai, Paris; Biennale, Sao Paolo; Muzej Savremene Umetnosti, Belgrade; Des Centre Cultural des Beaux Arts, France; and Municipallite de Nikea, Athens. Inscribed by Gaitis alongside his portrait. Only 3 listings in the World Catalog, including the Tate Museum and the Stedelijk Museum. Scarce, especially so with an artist signature. Rubbing and some toning to wrappers. First page loose, otherwise interior clean and tight.
