Pantone Matching System (PMS) Color Specifier Designers Edition

$250.00

Designers Edition of the Pantone Matching System Color Specifier, published by Pantone Press in 1964. Printed card wrappers with plastic comb binding, 8vo (8” x 5.25”). Contains a 7 page introduction followed by 4 87 ink colors that can be created from 10 basic inks. The 487 colors are shown on two paper stocks: coated in the front section; uncoated in the rear. Each color is represented by six scored “chips” that can be removed as a sample. The present volume is missing about 46 chips of the 5,844 total, with 6 loose chips included (every color is represented by at least 4 chips). With the plastic type visualizer in the rear pocket and the original cardboard slipcase. Pantone was founded in 1962; the first color matching system was produced in 1963. This is an early and scarce example of what became an industry standard guide. Rubbing and edge bumping to the wrappers, with two creases to the lower part of the front wrapper. The slipcase has a loose bottom flap, lacks the top flap, and shows wear and losses along the edges and sides.
